We celebrate the life of Harold Carl Shilha (Harry), 78, of Chippewa Falls, Wis., who left us on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, to be with his Lord after a courageous battle with cancer.

Harry was born on December 9, 1934, in Eau Claire, Wis., the 2nd of 6 children to Ferd and Agnes (Leidl) Shilha. Raised in Chippewa Falls, he graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in May of 1952 and joined the U.S. Army. Three years later he returned to his hometown where he remained in the Army Reserves.

In the summer of 1955 he met Jo Anne Revor. They married on August 24, 1957, and the two began to raise their family in Chippewa Falls.

Harry worked at Chippewa Woolen Mill, and went to technical school to become a machinist. After schooling, he got a job at Johnson Manufacturing and then at Uniroyal where he worked until it closed in 1991.

After Uniroyal, Harry took a job with River Country Co-op where he worked in maintenance from 1992 until his retirement in 2001. After 6 months, not being the retirement type, Harry took a job at Garda as a security driver until he hung up his holster for his final retirement in 2010.

Harry was a fun loving jokester who loved outdoor activities, playing cards, his spring Canadian fishing trips and, yes, an occasional beer. In his senior years, family picnics and the love of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were of great joys in his life.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Anne; and their 7 children, Cindy (Dennis) Wojt, Julie (Pete) Travaglio, Mary Shilha, Linda (Tony) Schneider, Susan (Scott) Leahy, Kim (Dave) Bernier and Larry Shilha. Harry had 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren (7 is on the way).

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ken Shilha; sister, Marlene Lancette; mother-in-law, Theresa Revor; and sisters-in-law, Darlene Bowe and Betty Lokrantz.

His zest for life and his unyielding sense of humor will be missed by family and countless friends alike. Godspeed and rest in peace!
Visitation will be Sunday, January 20, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Horan Funeral Home, Chippewa Falls. There will be a Christian Vigil Service at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at Noon Monday, January 21, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Victor Inbaraj will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Entombment will be in Hope Mausoleum in Chippewa Falls. Military rites will be conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
