He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and V.F.W. Post #854 of Fremont, and was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #200 all in Fremont. He was a past member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. He golfed on the Thursday night league at Whitetail Run and was an avid bowler.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Gregory & wife, Susan Smith, Steven Smith and friend, Tonja Ledford and Jeff & wife, Suzanne Smith all of Fremont; daughter, Barbara Shelton of Kilgore, TX; brother, William & wife, Audrey Smith of Florida; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lisa Marie Smith; and son-in-law, Jack Shelton.
Memorial service at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, NE. Pastor Kevin Clay and Pastor John Eisenring will officiate. There is no visitation. The family will receive friends on Monday from 9 AM to 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #854 and American Legion Post #20. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to The Crisis Center for Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault
