Helen Marie Ayers, 65, passed away peacefully on Dec. 11, 2012, at her home in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Helen was born in Butte on April 5, 1947, to Robert (Bob) and Marian Kerns. She lived in Butte the majority of her life and took pride in her job as the plant supervisor at St. John's Catholic Church, where she worked for over 30 years until she retired in 2006. Shortly after retirement, Helen moved to Coeur d'Alene to be closer to her family and take care of her "grandbabies," Austin and Alexia.

Helen will long be remembered by her endless energy for organizing and cleaning and love for life, family and friends. Helen was an amazing and strong woman who would have given you her last dollar or the shirt off of her back with no hesitations or questions. Helen did not ask much from anyone and was so grateful for every little thing life offered her. Every person who met Helen immediately learned what a special and kind person she truly was. Helen definitely made an impact in the lives of many, many people and will never be forgotten.

Helen loved the outdoors, holidays, traveling, sewing, ironing (as crazy as it sounds), taking bubble baths, anything purple or green, lilacs, playing the Wii (especially Mario Party), working in the yard, and anything sweet to eat. She took extreme pleasure in playing with her grandchildren … they could get her to do whatever, whenever, no matter what! Helen took pride in her Beanie Baby collection and her Christmas silver bell collection.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Edward Ayers; her parents, Robert and Marian; as well as other family members and friends.

Helen is survived by her son, Tod Ayers, daughter-in-law, Christine Ayers, grandson, Austin Ayers, and granddaughter Alexia Ayers; her daughter, Chris Keener, son-in-law, Art Keener, grandson, Riley Keener, and granddaughter, Emma Keener; her son, Keith Rongstad and daughter-in-law, Malina Rongstad (Long); brother, Robert (Tod) Kerns; sister-in-law, Nellie Kerns; brother, Jim Kerns, sister-in-law, Joanie Kerns; brother, Mike Kerns, sister-in-law Marianne Kerns; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who cared deeply for her.

Helen was a "tough old bird" as we used to tell her and will be forever missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. We love you Ma, Cran, Grammy, Grandma Helen, Claw dog, Hellion … Thank you for being you!

A celebration of Helen's life will take place in Butte sometime this spring.
