Killed In Automobile Crash
Car Struck Telephone Pole Late Last
Night Near Sanborn—Prominent
In Agricultural Work.
Mrs. Lillian Hood, 61, wife of Glenn F. Hood, well known Newfane farmer, and herself prominent in the Niagara County
Pomona Grange and Home Bureau, was almost instantly killed
at 10:30 o'clock last evening when her husband's automobile
she was driving careened across the Million Dollar highway a half mile north of Sanborn, jumped a four foot ditch and
crashed into a telephone pole,
Howard Budd of Warren's Corners, driving another car a short distance behind Mrs. Hood's machine, assisted in extricating her from her tightly pinned position, behind
the steering wheel, but she died a few minutes after she was removed to the nearby garage conducted by Edwin Kroening.
Dr. W. Levell Draper, coroner, of Niagara Falls, was summoned, and is expected to issue a certificate
of accidental death.
Mrs. Hood was returning to her home in Newfane from Niagara
Falls where she bad been offering farm produce for sale on the public market. She had for some time past been complaining of ill health, and friends and relatives believe she suffered a fainting spell. The accident
occurred at the intersection of the Ward and Saunders Settlement roads.
Was Public Spirited.
A resident of the Swing road, town of Newfane, Mrs. Hood was born Feb. 28, 1873, at West Somerset, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. Theron Dobbs. Most of her
married life had been spent in the town of Newfane--and a singularly estimable, capable and efficient
woman—she had for many years taken a prominent part in the activities of the Grange snd the Home Bureau.
At the time of her death, the Ceres of the County Pomona
Grange which today held its April meeting at Warrens Corners. Mrs. Hood had several times held the office of lecturer in the Newfane Grange, and she had held the office of leader of the Newfane Home Bureau unit.
She was also an active member of Cheer Rebekah lodge,and of the Newfane Methodist Epsicopal church and its Woman's
association and Phdathea class.
Beside her husband she is survived by one sifter Mrs. Fred Frost of Somerset. The funeral will be conducted next Monday afternoon by the Rev Frederick L Harburn of the Newfane M. E. Church.
