She and her brother Blueberry came to live with their human family on a rainy almost-spring day. For ten years, Cor became a little watchbird and timekeeper for the household pets. She and Blueberry would sound their own version of taps every night at nine, cued by the singing bird clock. They expected "lights out" at that time! Cornelia continued to do this until paralysis and old age made her too tired to sound her chirp every night --- but by this time, she had taught the other budgies to take over!

Cornelia loved shredding paper and gnawing cuttlebones to pieces. She loved carrots, corn and whole wheat bread as a special treat. She was such a good shredder that honey sticks and egg treats were reduced to splinters in no time at all.

She learned to spot tufted titmice at the feeder and would alert everyone when these little birds came flying in to feed.

Cornelia was cage mate to both her brother and later her uncle, Parker. The three birds looked quite similar and Cornelia got along with both males as long as they understood that she ruled the roost. She insisted on her way, but harmed no one.

She spent her last day near a sunny window with her bird and human friends, entertained by chickadees, titmice, finches, cardinals, and woodpeckers. A good, gentle budgie has flown to her rest.
