Francis "Frank" O. Jenkins, 89, of Sparta, passed into eternal rest on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta. He was born on August 15, 1923, to Walter and Alice (Wegner) Jenkins in Jenkins Valley, Town of Little Falls, Monroe County, Wisconsin.

He attended Jenkins Valley School and helped on the family farm until the family moved to Sparta. He served in the US Navy for 6 years, 6 months, and 29 days from 1942 until his discharge. He served in the South Pacific, North Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. He was a member of the Joint Task Force One Atomic Bomb Test, Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands. He was proud of his service to his country and had many exciting memories to relate.

Francis married Rosella Hammon Graham on May 15, 1954 and they lived in Sparta until December of 1969. During that period of time, he was employed by Beanie Grenisen Beer Distribution Co, Willgrubs Distribution Co, and Gateway Distribution Co. In 1966, he worked at the McCoy Job Corps Center operated by RCA. In 1968, he was employed by RCA who operated the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System in Thule, Greenland. The family moved to Camarillo, CA in December of 1969. He was employed at Wick's Company Builders' Emporium until his retirement in 1989.

Francis and Rosella moved back to Sparta in 1994 to enjoy their retirement. He enjoyed golfing, mowing his lawn on his riding mower, watching the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. His favorite TV show was "Walker. Texas Ranger" and enjoyed the music of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson. He loved his family and enjoyed hosting family gatherings. He will be sadly missed by all.

Francis is survived by Rosella, his wife of 58 years; sons, Jeffery (Nancy) Jenkins of Camarillo, CA and Jody (Christie) Jenkins of Stafford, VA; a step son, Stephen (Mary Alice) Graham of Hixton, WI; four granddaughters, Julia Anne (Tyler) Crocker of Marina, CA, Kimberly Jenkins of Monterey, CA, Amber (Jonathan) Wyatt of Severn, MD, and Brittany (Barney) Finn of Bumpass, VA; great grandchildren, Benjamin Crocker, Braeden, Lily, and Josie Wyatt, and Casey Leigh and Autumn Finn; step grandsons, Paul (Karie) Graham of Boulder, CO, Adam (Christine) Graham of Coon Valley, WI, Josh (JeAnne) Graham of Brooklyn Park, MN, and Joel (Heather) Graham of Platteville, WI, Sean Breckon of Madison, WI, and Mark Breckon of Kent WA; step great grandchildren, Zac Graham, Dominic, Taylor, Brooke Pagliaro, Travis Kemper-Graham, Jacelyn and Kenna Breckon; brothers, Harley and Harold (Maryke); sisters, Alberta Rommel, Dot (Gordon) Hutson, Shirley (Kenny) Snow, Carole (Lawrence) Ruedy, Betty (Loren) Kirkeeng; sister-in-laws, Mildred Jenkins, Virgie Washburn, and Nancy (David) Hendricks; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a step son, David Graham; a brother, Cleo; a sister, Bernice; sister-in-law, Delores Jenkins; and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church, Sparta, with Reverend Rey Diaz officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 of Sparta will be in Cataract Cemetery, Cataract.

Family and friends are invited to call at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, on Monday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
