May F. Johnson, 95, of Sparta, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at her home. She was born on February 14, 1917 in Bessemer, MI to Paul and Pearl (Reese) Renning. She lived in Bessemer and Milwaukee, WI before moving to Sparta to care for her grandmother.

May married Richard W. Johnson on September 15, 1936 at the "Little Glass Church" near Sparta. After marriage, they lived in Sparta. She worked at the Wisconsin State Child Center, Ft. McCoy, and Rolling Hills before she retired.

May was a member of the Farmers Valley Homemakers Club and St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She volunteered during Summerfest and making Christmas cards for the church. She enjoyed embroidery, baking, especially her apple pies, but family was always her main interest.

May is survived by her children, Shirley (Duane) Erickson of Sparta, Delores Trauten of Midland, TX, David (Betty) Johnson of Sparta, and Dennis (Jodell) Johnson of Lakeville, MN; 19 grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren.

May was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; a daughter, Alvina Sullivan; and a son, James Johnson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta, Monsignor Richard Gilles officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta.

Family and friends are invited to call at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services
