On Jan. 17, 2013, Helen Janice "Jan" Mooney, 70, was guided by the angels from her daughter's caring home in Reno, into her Lord's awaiting arms after an extended illness.
Born Nov. 3, 1942, in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Sherwood E. Gifford Sr. and the late Dora B. "Dolly" (Acklin) Gifford.
She attended Oil City High School and graduated from Oil City Nursing School in 1964 with a Registered Nursing degree.
She married Walter R. Mooney Jr. on Jan. 16, 1965, and he survives.
Jan lived and worked in many different places including Catlin, Illinois, where she was an officer in the Junior Women's Club and the Women's Auxiliary of the Catlin Volunteer Fire Department.
In Anderson, Indiana, she was employed at various times by the Regional Blood Bank, St. John's Hospital and Delco-Remy as an Occupational Nurse.
She first worked at Ask-A-Nurse in Reading, and was recruited by a co-worker there to be a floating occupational nurse for the various businesses in the Berks county area, which led to her full-time position as an occupational nurse with the Dana Corporation until her retirement. At that time, Jan moved back to Oil City to become a caregiver to her mother, until her mother's death in 2005.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children five grandchildren her sister, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and one aunt, She also leaves behind her beloved Pomeranian, "Rusty."
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Sherwood "Sherdie" Gifford; two sisters, Nancy Baker and Delores J. "Jeanne" Koons; and 11 Acklin aunts and uncles, as well as numerous cousins.
Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry.
