Nathan Powell Clarke was born in Decatur MS on 21 June 1876, the son of George Powell Clarke and Martha Ann Puckett Clarke. He married Emma Margaret Rowzee on 07 March 1903 and moved to Memphis TN where he was a clerk with the railroad company. He also fixed watches as a hobby. Together, they had four children: Idalene, a daughter who died young; Joseph Nathan Clarke (1907-2001); Frank Powell Clarke (1912-1977); and George Weston Clarke Sr. (1917-2007).
