Between April 1910 and April 1911 the family Zandstra moved for some years to the settlement of Hardin, located about 60 miles northeast of Denver in Colorado, and next, in 1913, they returned to Lansing, Illinois. Shortly after, they moved to Munster, Indiana, 45th Avenue near the Hart ditch, where Bart's siblings Gary and Dot (Jeanette) were probably born. (The Zandstra children walked to the Christian Reformed school in Highland from here.) In 1917 they moved to Highland, Indiana, on Kleinman Road near the Cady ditch. His sister Babe (Catherine) was probably born here. In 1920 they purchased a 50 acre farm south of downtown Highland. Later a 30 acre parcel was bought and in 1927 another 28 acres was added. Munster and Highland are located in Lake County in the northwestern part of Indiana, adjacent to Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, and Lake Michigan.
In 1920 Bert (14) lived still in North Township, Lake County, Indiana, together with his father Bert Zandstra, his mother Catherin (44) and his 12 siblings: Gertrude (24), Hilda (20), Joe (18), Charlie (17), Jacob (15), John (13), Arnold (10), Elizabeth (8, born in Colorado), William (7, Colorado), Garret (5, Indiana), Jeanett (4, Indiana) and Catherien (0, Indiana).

In May 1940 Bartel Zandstra (34 y, born in Illinois, clerk treasurer at the town hall) and his wife Gwendolyn (31, Michigan) lived at an own home, worth $9000, in Highland Town, North Township, Lake County, Indiana. Bartel lived in 1935 at the same place, Gwendolyn in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan.
The married Bartel Zandstra was on 30 June 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana enlisted for military service as a private for the duration of the War or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law. His education level was post-graduate and his civilian occupation was accountant and auditor.
Bartel H Zandstra lived from at least April 1974 until his death in 1983 in Highland, Lake County, Indiana. Besides his wife Gwendolyn possible relatives were David L Zandstra, Karlyn J Zandstra, Muriel A Zandstra and Nicholas B Zandstra.
Bartel Zandstra died in February 1983 at the age of 77 years, very probably in Highland, Lake County, Indiana. His widow Gwendolyn died in February 1998 at the age of 89 years, very probably in Highland too.
