Delores resided on South Lakeshore Drive in Carrollton. She was a 1967 honor graduate of Carrollton High School and 1970 graduate of the University of Georgia with Bachelor of Arts. She and her husband of 42 years, James Stewart Reid Carter, owned and operated Sit n Sleep since 1985, receiving the 2007 Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year as well as the 2009 Farm City Small Business of the Year.
She loved and lived for children and grandchildren. Up until a few years ago, she enjoyed water skiing on Lake Carroll and planned to snow ski this winter with her grandchildren. Delores was a 14 year survivor of breast cancer. Although she was in remission from her third bout, her body was too weak to recover from complications.
Delores is survived by sister Nancy Sue Patterson Davis. Delores leaves a daughter Susan Victoria Carter Hirvela and son Zachery Alexander Carter. Susan is married to George O'Quinn Hirvela. They have two children, Mary Katherine Hirvela and Stephen Carter Hirvela. Zachery is married to Leah Barkoskie Carter. They have two children, Gabriel Rhys Carter and Marcella
Elizabeth Carter.
Pall bearers will be Barry E. Davis, husband of Nancy Davis, and children Jon E. Davis, Jennifer Davis Barbour, and James E. Davis; brother-in-laws Dr. G. Clifford Carter, Dr. J. Scott Carter, and Ronald A. Carter. Honorary
