David C. Allison, who had made Claremont his home for more than thirty years, died March 5, 2010 after a brief illness. He was 85 years old.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 8, 1924 the son of William and Elizabeth (Bodenschotz) Allison, he attended Perry High School, graduating in 1941.

He interrupted his college years at Renssellaer Polytechnic Institute to join the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving aboard LSTs in the Pacific, though he never saw action.

He returned to Troy, New York to finish college, meeting Harriette Galbraith of New Jersey, a student at nearby Russell Sage. They were married in 1948, and moved to Springfield, Ohio, where David worked as a salesman at J.C. Penney's and pursued a Master's degree at Wittenburg College.

The Allison's moved to New Jersey and David Allison pursued a career in journalism in New York, working as a writer and editor with McGraw-Hill and with Science and Technology in the 1950s and early 1960s.

David and his wife Harriette had a daughter Jean, born in 1950, three sons; John, born in 1952, Paul, born in 1955, and Robert, born in 1957, before divorcing in 1962.

After divorcing his first wife, David Allison married Mary Elizabeth (Mary Lib) Young, originally from Barre, Vermont. They bought a summer home in Claremont in 1969, making it their permanent residence in 1977. They became fully involved in the affairs of their adopted town—she served on the Library Board of Trustees, he was elected to represent Claremont in the state legislature, and served on the Claremont School Committee in the 1990s.

Mary Lib Allison died in 2003. His first son, John, also predeceased him, in 1976.

He is survived by his first wife, Harriette Allison; daughter Jean Hager and her husband Tom, of Huntington, West Virginia, and two step-grand-children; son Paul and his wife Mardi, of Port Chester, New York, and their children Gavin, Jean, Clayton, and Susan; son Robert and his wife Phyllis, and their children John Robert and Philip; and a nephew, William Allison.

At David Allison's request, there will be no service, though a memorial time for remembrance is being planned.
