He was selected as a member of the United States' 1952 Men's Olympic basketball team, which was coached by Phog Allen and contained a number of players from his Kansas Jayhawks champion team. John Keller helped the Olympic team defeat teams from six other countries on their way to the Gold Medal Champion Game. In that game the United States defeated the Soviet Union 36 to 25 to capture the Gold. After his playing days he became a teacher in his hometown of Great Bend, Kansas.
