Dorothy E. Baker, 88, of the Courtyard Terrace at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, passed away at the Boone County Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, January 15, 2013.

She was born on July 9, 1924 in Boone, Iowa the daughter of Henry H. and Elizabeth (Burton) Ferry. On November 17, 1946, she married Eugene R. Baker at the Christian Church in Boone, Iowa.

During the war, Dorothy was an inspector at the ordinance plant in Ankeny. She enjoyed helping her husband work on their farm in Jackson Township. Dorothy enjoyed crafts, especially latch hooking. She loved her grandchildren and had a special place in her heart for animals. Dorothy and Eugene spent 17 years traveling to Texas for the winters.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church for more that 50 years and participated in the Boone Municipal Band as a clarinet player for many years.

Her parents; husband Eugene in June of 2002; brothers Clyde and Cecil Ferry; and a sister Iona Franklin in November of 2012 preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son Ronald Baker and wife Teresa of Ames; 4 grandchildren Jill Lenius and husband Andy, Sam Baker and wife Anot, Kelly Sanborn and husband Koda, and Ricki Baker; 3 step-grandchildren Lindsey Mitchell and husband Mike, Melissa Higgins and husband Dale and Joseph Crawford; a great-grandson Mason Lenius; a great-granddaughter Marianna Baker; 4 step-great-grandchildren Maelynn Mitchell, Keaton Mitchell, Kenik Pierce and Karver Higgins; a sister-in-law Betty Ferry of Boone; nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday morning, January 18th at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Boone with Rev. Jerry Bertelson officiating. Interment will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the First Baptist Church.
