Lenora Josephine Sloan, daughter of Rev. Archibald Strong Sloan and Elizabeth Jane [née Stewart] Sloan, was known by family and friends as, Nora. Her father was the minister of Prosperity and New Hope Associate Reform Presbyterian churches in Lincoln County, Tennessee.

On October 24th 1872, Nora married Hugh Thompson Sloan, son of John Curry Sloan and the former Elizabeth Melina Morrow. Nora and Thompson made their home in the area around Lincoln Co., Tennessee and had four children:
Albert Lowery (1873 – 1948)
Lola May (1885 – 1971)
Paul Neil (1887 – 1898)
Daughter (1888 – 1888)
