Ralph J. Larson (1925 - 1995)

Ralph J. Larson was born September 6, 1925, adopted son of Frank and Verna Miller Larson. He died at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on Sunday, October 22, 1995 at the age of seventy.

Brownie as he was better known was born on a farm near Dow City, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. He received his education in a rural school near his home and the Charter Oak Community School where he graduated with the class of 1944.

After graduation, Brownie worked for Hoefer-Bunenz Hardware until he was united in marriage to Vernet M. Neddermeyer on June 20, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak by Rev. W. Schroeder. The couple settled on a farm near Charter Oak and were blessed with the birth of two children. Brownie retired from farming and the family subsequently moved to Charter Oak where he owned and operated the Larson Grocery for ten years before becoming employed by the Minnesota Mutual Insurance Company in 1966. He remained in the insurance industry until retiring in 1991.

Brownie was a loving and caring husband and father who valued the importance of his family. He devoted a tremendous effort to the community and was named Charter Oak Citizen of the Year in 1974. In his leisure time, Brownie enjoyed golfing and woodworking and loved sports. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak where he served as Elder for several years as well as the St. John School Board, the Charter Oak Community Club, the Charter Oak Commercial Club, Charter Oak Volunteer Fireman for many years and was on the board of Eventide for twenty-five years.

Brownie was preceded in death his parents and one brother, Robert in 1991. Survivors include: his wife, Vernet of Charter Oak, two daughters, Jeri Lynn Kolpin and her husband, Myron of Alta, Iowa; and Patti Jo Peters and her husband, Joe of Fremont, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Eric, Emily and Evan; one brother LeRoy Brown and his wife, Molly of Martinez, California; two sisters, Ruth Kuhlmann and her husband, Edgar of Charter Oak; Donna Berka and her husband, Melvin of Lincoln, Nebraska and one sister-in-law, Ruth Brown of Dayton, Iowa.
