Chester Lee "Chet" Masten was born on April 9, 1935 in Ashland, Illinois, the son of Ezra Masten (1889–1982) and Louanna (Woodrum) Masten (1896–1983).

He was a graduate of Tallula High School and the University of Western Illinois in Macomb, Illinois.

Chet served in the US Army Reserves and was a manager of credit with International Harvester (Navistar) Finance and had been with them for 43 years. He was also a member of the Community Christian Church of Carillon and was a talented craftsman, who enjoyed woodworking and making jewelry.

Living at Carillon in Plainfield, he was 77 years old and married when he passed away at home on May 11, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his married daughter Cheryl (Masten) Vochko, his parents, sisters Mildred B (Masten) Zillion (1913–2006), Mary (Masten) Reiken, Emma Lou (Masten( Pettit (1918–2010) and by his brother Warren G Masten (1922–2005). Survivors included his wife, daughter, sister, brother James Berry Masten (1941–2020), brother-in-law and four grandchildren.

Memorial Services were held at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home in Naperville.

Per Chet's wishes, his body was donated to science.
