Kirk Powell passed away at his home at 215 East 7th street in Joplin of chronic kidney disease (nephritis). According to the article he had been sentenced to prison in 1891, but must have been paroled at some point because at the time of his death according to his Missouri Death Certificate was married and working as a teamster in Joplin. He was buried in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hurlbut Undertaking Company.
