Ulysses Harland "Harry" Bennett was born in Brown, West Virginia, the son of Orrin A. Bennett and Melvina M. Wilkins. His parents were married in Harrison County, West Virginia, on September 29, 1881. He was a barber in Weston, West Virginia, when he registered for the World War I draft on June 5, 1917. He enlisted as a hospital corpsman (private) and was assigned to the 136th Base Hospital. He married (1) Mabel Mallott on August 17, 1918. Soon after the war Harry and Mabel were divorced and Harry relocated to Los Angeles County, California, where he appears as an unmarried barber living in Long Beach in 1926 (City Directory, Los Angeles County Great Register). He moved to Culver City in 1927 where he became a police officer. Harry married (2) Eva Celesti Chapman y Higuera at Culver City in September 1928 (Star and Daily Post [Ventura, CA], Sat., Sep. 22, 1928; 6:2). He died just a few months later on February 18, 1929, and was buried in the Chapman family plot, Woodlawn Cemetery, Santa Monica. Eva and Harry did not have any children.
