LaVerne F. Dixon, 83, Henderson, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville with her family by her side.
She was a member of Greater Norris Chapel Baptist Church, where she served as a church clerk and a member of the musical department. She also served as a church pianist at St. Paul Baptist Church in Corydon for 37 years.
She was born April 11, 1925, to the late James L. Fellows and Alma V. Shootz in Chicago. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Dixon.
Her professional life activities have included owner and operator of LaVerne's Beauty Shop, Henderson County Deputy Sheriff's Department, caseworker at Kentucky Cabinet for Families and Children, and lady attendant at Mason Brothers Funeral Homes, Audubon Chapel. She also served as a voting precint captain.
Survivors include two sons, James E. Dixon of Henderson and William L. Dixon and wife Faye of Owensboro; one granddaughter, Jada Cansler and husband Richard of Henderson; two grandsons, Christopher L. Dixon of San Diego and Dedrick Tillerson of Atlanta; three great-grandchildren, Kiara and twins Richard and Rashia Cansler, all of Henderson; and a host of cousins and loving friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Greater Norris Chapel Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in UBF Cemetery in Corydon.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church, where wake services and the family will be present after 6 p.m.
Mason Brothers Audubon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
