Vida DuRand Mead Bachman Monticello, IL. Our beloved Mother and Nana, Vida DuRand Mead Bachman, passed from this world in the early morning hours of Monday, January 14, 2013, at Carle Hospital, into the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was born February 22, 1922, at home in West Orange, NJ, the fourth of five children, to her parents, Harold Burr Mead and Rebecca Pole Godfrey Mead.

She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Temple University in 1943 with a BA in Education. She received her MA in Education from Illinois State University in 1981. She continued on and completed all of the coursework for a PhD in Education, also through ISU, but chose not to complete her dissertation. During World War II, she worked as a draftsman for Grumman. After receiving her BA, she taught high school Freshman English in New Jersey.

Many years later, she was the inaugural kindergarten teacher in the school-year-long, new Kindergarten program for the Monticello School system, having developed the new program, and continued to teach Kindergarten for 22 years, retiring at age 66, in May, 1988.

In her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and her pets, music, traveling, watching the birds and other wildlife outside her kitchen windows, and doing crossword puzzles. She was a prayer warrior. While teaching in New Jersey, she joined the Bloomfield (NJ) Symphony, where she played clarinet for four years.

There she met her first husband, Ted Niewiadomski. They were married in 1948, and had one child, Theodore Jon. Her husband died of Lupus in the fall of 1953. She then married long time close friend, George Kenneth Bachman, in the spring of 1954.

He adopted her son, and they had four daughters together, Paula Lee, Beckee V, Georgette Kay (Gigi), and Ginee C. She was predeceased by her father, mother, two sisters and one brother, both husbands, and four infant grandchildren.

Surviving are her twin brother, David Godfrey Mead, of Davis, CA; and her five children and ten grandchildren: Ted (Kathryn) Bachman, of Barrington and Monticello, IL; Paula Lee Bachman, of Des Plaines and Champaign, IL; Beckee V Bachman, of Champaign, IL, and her son, Anthony George Costa; Georgette Kay (Mark) Eschbach of Seymour, IL, and their children, Mark David Eschbach II, Abigail Annah (fiancé, Josiah Vaughn) Eschbach, Matthew Paul Geoffrey Eschbach, and Rebecca Berea Eschbach; and Ginee C. (Mark) Scott of Bondville, and their children, Annastasia Mead (fiancé, Alexander LaMoore) Scott, Emily Edwards Scott, Stephen Mark Scott, Olivia Bachman Scott, and Isannah Marie DuRand Scott.

Mrs. Bachman was a member of Meadowbrook Community Church in Champaign, where she taught Sunday school and worked with homeschooling groups for many years until 2003. Memorials may be made to Meadowbrook Community Church in her honor.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 18, 2013, at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the Meadowbrook Community Church, Champaign, with Pastor Ron Strack officiating.

Interment will follow in Monticello Township Cemetery.
