John D. Lavender of Eutaw, Al who is the sixth generation descendant of Hugh Lavender gave the ceremonial address held 5/24/1998 at the cemetery when the Daughters of the American Revolution placed the plaque in the photo.
1. born 11/11/1754 in County Antrium, Northern Ireland
2. died 9/18/1834 in Greene County, AL (this part later became Hale County in 1867
3. Hugh's family if of French Hugenot descent from the Normandy area where the family name was deLavindir
4. Hugh immigrated to South Carolina in 1771 at the age of 17.
