Scipio Africanus Kenner usually known as S. A. Kenner was a publisher and politition in territoral and early statehood Utah.
He was born in Saint Francisville, Missouri on 14 May 1846 the son of Foster Ray and Sarah Catherine Elizabeth Kirkwood Kenner. He came to Utah in a Mormon Company in 1860. He married Isabella Gray Park in 1870 in Salt Lake City, Utah Territory and was the father of ten children.
He worked in the newspaper business first as a telegraph operator then journeyman for the Deseret News. He later worked his way up the ladder and became an editor for nor only the Deseret News but also the Provo Times and Ogden Standard.
Kenner studied under Judge Alexander George Sutherland and was admitted to the Utah State Bar. He became the Salt Lake City attorney, LDS Church attorney and assistant U.S. attorney during his career. He also served as a member of the Utah State Legislature.
He was an author writing "The Practical Politician" and "Utah As It Is. The town of Scipio was named in his honor after he helped the citizens there obtain the legal rights to the area there.
He died in Salt Lake City, Utah on 13 Mar 1913.
