Dale W. Tietz, age 80, died on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at St. Mary's Care Center, after an extended illness. He was born on January 16, 1932 in Merrill, WI the son of Benjamin and Clara (Kraft) Tietz. He graduated from Portage High School in 1950. He was united in marriage to Kathryn A. Trostem on May 23, 1953 at St. Raphael's Cathedral. Dale retired in 1990 after 36 years of service from the City of Madison. He spent his retirement breeding and training Labrador Retrievers. He was an avid bowler, golfer and hunter.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathy; children, Tom (Sue) Tietz and Mary (Jerry) Luebke; grandchildren, Daniel Luebke, Diana Menter and Matthew (Rebecca) Kasper; Step-grandchildren, Alex Kasper, Kristen (Mike) Stukel and Claudia Kasper; 4 great-grandchildren; niece, Pat Backer; nephew, Bruce Piercy and also great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Hudson and son-in-law, Roger Kasper.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Ave. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the nurses and staff at St. Mary's Care Center, who's care got him through the last 10 ½ years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Care Center, 3401 Maple Grove Drive, Madison, WI 53719 in memory of Dale Tietz.
