Mr. Akers was born in Bowden, Ga. and lived in the Akron area until he retired in 1978. He then moved to Alma W.Va. until just recently when he came back to Salem. He retired from B W with 32 years as a maintenance supervisor. He was also a 50 year member of National Lodge #568 FAM.
He was preceded in death by wife, Birdie and brother Troy. He is survived by daughters, Sammie Hailey of Akron and Connie (Robert) Lucas of Damascus, Ohio; grandchildren, Samuel Hailey (Tim), Gabriel (Angie) Hailey, Carmen (Pete) Stannard, Mandi Lucas; great-grandchildren, Genna, Havynn, Lacie, Aellyn, Asher and Boston; sister, Mary Jane Zganjar of Akron; very good friends, Chuck and Vonnie Daniels; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
