Clarence O. Walters, Jr., 76, of Grand Island, died Saturday, January 22, 2005, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Benischek
officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3 – 8 p.m. at Kleine Funeral Home with the family receiving
friends throughout the afternoon and evening.
Clarence was born August 22, 1928, the son of Clarence, Sr. and Edna (Snyder) Walters. After receiving his early education in Omaha, he moved to Grand Island and attended Grand Island Senior High, graduating in 1946. He joined the U.S. Army and served during the last part of WWII and then joined the Active Reserves. On December 1, 1949 he married Maude E. Perkins and they made their home in Grand Island for 55 years. He attended Hasting College then once again
he returned to the service during the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge he continued his education while working at Contryman Associates. In 1960 he became a CPA and later was promoted to senior partner at Contryman Associates,
retiring at age 65.
In his spare time, Clarence assisted, as did all his family, in Maude’s Stained Glass business. He loved his family and working with his sons. His middle son, Donald, a Grand Island attorney, died of an illness on October 25,
2000.
He is survived by his wife, Maude E. Walters of Grand Island, two sons: John Walters and wife Peggy of Broken Bow, and Michael Walters of Grand Island, two grandchildren: Stephanie (Mrs. Doug) Grafel of Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, and Mark (and wife Jamie) Walters of Grand Island, two great-grandchildren: Savannah and Cameron Grafel.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Donald.
