Rodger married the love of his life Lydia May Harrison on September 2, 1960, in Cedar City. Together Rodger and Lydia were blessed with 5 children. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, receiving great joy from being surrounded by his family.
His roots run deep in his ancestral home of Summit, Utah, where he spent many of his summers and eventually made it his home. He loved Summit and was actively involved in keeping the small town ascetics of the close-knit community.
In southern Utah any direction you look, you will see construction projects Rodger worked on whether it be a building, house or bridge, all of which were built to perfection. Through his work ethics and diligence he earned Project Superintendent of Utah. After retirement he continued working hard maintaining his properties as a conservator of the land. His family is grateful for the legacy he left and the love he gave us will forever be in our hearts.
Rodger was preceded in death by his parents, son Matt Harrison Austin and granddaughter Sierra Marie Austin. He is survived by his wife Lydia of Summit, daughter Yvette Austin Oswald (Dan) of Preston, ID, Christie Austin of Okanogan, WA, Bret Rodger Austin of Summit, and Kyle Ray Austin (Paige) of Kanarraville; 3 grandsons, 2 granddaughters and 2 great-granddaughters; siblings Cathey Wilson (Bud) of Summit, Cheryl Burnett (Herman) of Willow, FL, and Tony Morton (Sue) of Clearlake, CA; numerous nieces, nephews and life long friends.
Services with be held Thursday, January 17, 2013, at the Summit Ward Chapel, 55 East Main, Summit, Utah at 1:00 pm. Viewing will be held from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the service. Burial in the Summit Cemetery will follow the service. In lieu of flowers memorials will be donated to Summit Cemetery. Southern Utah Mortuary is handling Rodger's arrangements.
