Teresa Lynette (Terry) Helms, 61, of Christiansburg died, Friday, January 11, 2013, at her home. She was born in Montgomery County, Va. on December 20, 1951. Terry was an award-winning Math educator at Blacksburg High School in Montgomery County for almost 40 years. She loved teaching and was dedicated to her school, community and the betterment of others. When not inspiring students in the classroom, she loved traveling, antiquing, spending time with family and friends, and working in her flowers. Terry was a faithful member of Alleghany Church of Christ.
She is survived by her son, W. Hunter Maddy, of Christiansburg; parents, Rudolph E. "Rudy" and Hilda H. Helms, of Blacksburg; sister and brother-in-law, Penny H. and Roger N. White, of Blacksburg; brother and sister-in-law, Mark S. and Kym Helms, of Christiansburg; nieces and nephews, Jesse Helms, Casey Helms, Kelsea Helms, Lacie Helms, Parker White; special friend, Kenneth Grubb, of Dublin; many other special friends, neighbors, and her co-educators at Blacksburg High School.
Funeral services will be conducted, Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Alleghany Church of Christ with Mr. Porter Riner officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday evening at the McCoy Funeral, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
