Kenneth J. Rittenmeyer, 87 of Iowa City died Saturday, September 22, 2007, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2007, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Kenneth Kuntz officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Memorial donations can be made in his memory to Iowa City Senior Center. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Sunday parking ordinance will be in effect for Wednesday for the streets around the church.

Ken was born May 7, 1920, in Iowa City the son of Albert and Bess (Fitch) Rittenmeyer. Following graduation from St. Mary's High School he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during WWII. Returning to Iowa City following the war he worked for the Postal Service for a number of years. Later he transferred to White Plains, NY where he continued to work for the Postal Service. Here he earned a degree in education from the City College of New York. He then taught high school math in New York City until his retirement in 1981. He returned to Iowa City after his retirement.

His family includes two brothers, Adrian of Solon and Ted of Iowa City; a sister-in-law, Roseleta Rittenmeyer of Iowa City; and several nieces and nephews.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Virgil, Bernard, and Dean.

In honor of Ken, an open AA meeting will be held at 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home @ 2720 Muscatine Avenue, Iowa City, anyone is welcome to attend.
