Sherri began skating when she was only four. She competed in ladies singles competition up to the 1955 season, representing the Broadmoor FSC. After that, she retired to provide support for her younger sister, Stephanie. On Feb. 15, 1961, she was killed while accompanying her sister and the rest of the 1961 US World Figure Skating Team, on their journey to the World Championship in Prague. Their plane crashed near the Brussels airport, killing everyone aboard.
Sister of Stephanie Westerfield, who was an American figure skater. Both girls were killed on February 15, 1961 when Sabena Flight 548 crashed on its way to the World Championships in Prague.
