Mrs. Gaines was a longtime member of the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department in Fairfax and King George Volunteer Fire Department.
Mrs. Gaines loved to knit, sew and crochet. She enjoyed reading books and socializing in the community. Mrs. Gaines was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Gaines, Jr.
Survivors include her daughters, Ginny L. Grimes (Phil) of King George and Cathy Breeden (Ray) of Manassas; her grandchildren, Laura Kneece (Kyle), Thomas "Gip" Breeden (Allison) and Sara Leann Breeden; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 7 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 8 at Fairfax Memorial Park.
