She was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh. She attended Leigh schools. Ellen worked at the Mead Ordinance Plant in Mead, Nebraska during World War II. In 1948 she moved back to Leigh where she worked in several stores. In 1960 she moved to Columbus and worked at Dale Electronics for 14 years. She then worked at the Columbus Manor for 10 years.
Ellen was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church and had been a member of the Christian Fun and Fellowship Club. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, tatting, playing cards, and taking care of her rose garden.
