Business Executive. For thirty-two years he was the financial adviser and chief executive for Howard R. Hughes Enterprises. In 1925, he was an accountant when Howard Hughes hired him as an employee for the Hughes Tool Company. Dietrich soon began running the tool company and became Hughes’ trusted adviser. As Executive Officer, he pursued interests into the film and aircraft businesses building Hughes Enterprises into a world wide empire. He was both director and vice president of Hughes Tool Company, director and chairman of the executive committee of Trans World Airlines (TWA), chairman of the board of RKO Pictures Corporation and director of Hughes Aircraft. When he quit Hughes in 1957, he was one of the highest paid corporate executives in the United States. Dietrich went on to serve as a commissioner of the City of Los Angeles, a director of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and opened financial consulting offices in Los Angeles. In retirement, he was a much sought after guest speaker throughout the United States.
