The many friends of Mrs. Martha Simmons will be pained to learn of her death. She departed this life last Sunday evening at 8 P.M. at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Tom Smith. She complained of feeling unwell about 5 o'clock, but nothing serious was thought of it, and all were terribly shocked at her sudden death, which must have resulted from heart disease. The deceased was an old Texas lady, having been here over forty years. She was born in 1817 – making her age at her death 64 years. We did not know her personally but she had a host of friends to follow her to her last resting place. We extend our sympathy to the family. [Interment in Weimar Odd Fellows Cemetery]

Married (1) Obadiah Kirkland Winn, April 20, 1837,Bayou Chicot, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana; (2) John Simmons, May 20, 1850, Colorado County, Texas.

Known children: Cordelia; Thomas; Warren; Richard; and Jessie Amanda Winn.

Known children: Sidney Simmons and Mary Simmons.
