He was born Oct. 8, 1905, in Fisher to James and Mary O'Grady. He moved with his family to Bemidji in 1917 and graduated from high school here. On Oct. 15, 1928, he married Hedvig "Swede" Carlson. He operated the Northwestern Oil Station at Second Street and Beltrami Avenue for 25 years. He also worked at Land O'Lakes Motors and Spaulding Motors as a salesman before retiring. He was a past president of the Bemidji Curling Club and an honorary life member. He was also a member of St. Philip's Catholic Church. He took great interest in hunting, fishing and sports.
He is survived by two sons, Bernard of Phoenix, Ore., and Terrence of St. Paul; one daughter, Nancy (Bill) Holt of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Edwin of Bagley; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in March, a son, four brothers and one sister.
