Cantral St. in Decatur, Macon county, IL., and working at the Oak Ordnance Plant in Illiopolis, IL. His next of kin was listed as: Mrs. Nettie Chamberlain, living at the same address.
David was described as 5'6 1/2" tall, weighing 160 lbs., with brown eyes, brown hair, a dark complexion and a burn scar on his chest.

David enlisted in the Navy Reserve on Jul. 17, 1942 and was discharged on Dec. 9, 1945.

On Jul. 1, 1947, David William Watson and Mary Maxine (Gideon) Barnhart were married in Carson City, NV.

David William Watson, 24, formerly of Decatur, died at noon Tuesday in the navy hospital at San Bernardino, Calif., following a long illness.
News of his death was received here by a cousin, Mrs. L. J. Durbin, Lake Grove club.
Mr. Watson was born in Decatur Aug. 24, 1922, a son of Jess and Gladys Pope Watson. He attended the Sunnyside grade school and Johns Hill junior high school, but left high school to join the navy in 1941.
His parents moved to California in 1942, but the family had returned here frequently on visits since then,
He was discharged from the navy in 1945 and had been a hospital patient since last December.
He leaves his parents, his wife and a sister, Evelyn Mikesell, all of California, and a grandfather, F. E. Pope of 925 West King street.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert, who was killed when he fell from a train, Mrs. Durbin said.
Funeral services and burial will be in California.

A little over a year later, on May 31, 1949, David's widow, Mary Maxine (Gideon) Barnhart-Watson, died at the age of 25 in Sacramento, Sacramento County, CA.
