Alcatraz Prison inmate 335-AZ. Part of third escape attempt from Alcatraz on night of May 23, 1938. Spent the longest term in a closed front solitary cell of any inmate at Alcatraz. Spent almost entire life behind bars. Imprisoned at Kilby, Leavenworth and Atlanta and several jails. Paroled from Atlanta Prison October 29, 1974. In his final years appeared to be a reformed man, with both Wardens and family feeling so. His death due to lung cancer. Rufus Franklin was living with his sister Ruby Mae Farrow at the time of his death.
