Sarah C. Buchanan was born on 12 Sep 1820 in Virginia.

In 1850, at the age of thirty-four, Sarah was single and living at home with her parents in Smyth County, Virginia.

She married William D. Page, son of Tucker Page, on 29 Jul 1858 in Smyth County, Virginia. Sarah's married life may have been brief.

By 1870 she was living with her uncles Mathew, Robert and James Buchanan in Washington County. She was helping her sister Jane care for their household.

When the brothers' wrote their wills a few months later they each left $1,000 to Sarah (or "Sallie" as she was often referred to) in appreciation of her care.

James, the last surving brother, died in June 1876 and the brothers' combined estate entered probate shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, Sallie herself died a few months later.

Sarah died on 26 Oct 1876 at age 56. She was buried at Buchanan Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.

Sally's own probate reflected the distribution of her $3,000 bequest from the three Buchanan brothers to her living siblings or their heirs. It listed payments of approximately $500 each to Jane Buchanan, A.M. Buchanan, Rosannah Witten, George Crenshaw, Mary Ward, and Mary J. Durrell & Mgt L. Hale as heirs of William Buchanan.
