William Wesley (Bill) Messeroll was born on December 23, 1924, in Lansing, to William and Etta Messeroll. He graduated in the first graduating class of Sexton High School. Though being a paraplegic from age 23 when he contracted polio, he led a very active and full life. He was a barber for 41 years in the Lansing area, most of those years on the corner of Pennsylvania and Michigan at Bill's Barber Shop. He was active in the local and state Barber Association, serving as President of both. He was the legislative agent for the State Barbers' Association. He served on the state Barber Licensing Board. He was a WWII veteran receiving a medical discharge. He was a Big Brother. He was a member of Central Free Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and a member of various other boards. He enjoyed fishing and traveling, especially several trips to Europe and out west. He was a member of the Lansing area post polio organization. He enjoyed organizing and attending family events. He was preceded in death by his parents and his four sisters, Evelyn (William) Perry, Florence (George) Klein, Tillie (Eldon) Cummings, and Bertha Baker. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 68 years, Juanita, and children Dianna (Kenneth) Smith, LeAnne Brissette, William (Jeri) Messeroll, and Kenneth (Jessica) Messeroll and grandchildren Gregory (Page) Smith, Kevin (Danielle) Smith, Gretchen (Wes) Stevenson, Sabra Toroneck, Barron Brissette, Jamie Messeroll, a
granddaughter due in February, and great grandchildren Malachi, Rylee, Ezekiel, Colton, Gideon, Jacob, Jenna, Anna, Joshua, and Abigail, brother-in-law Chester Baker and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Dianna and Danielle for their excellent daily care. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 on Tuesday at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave, Lansing and noon on Wednesday at the church. The funeral service will be Wednesday January 16, 2013 at 1pm at Central Free Methodist Church with the Rev Dr. Bruce N G Cromwell officiating. Internment at Deepdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Central Free Methodist Church, 828 N. Washington Ave. Lansing. The family is grateful to Doctors Chiu and Patel from Visiting Physicians, Nurse Theresa Pierce from Pinnacle, and Grace Hospice for their special care.
