Margie White Simmons, 85, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Lutheran Home Hickory - West.

She was born May 6, 1925, in Catawba County to the late Homer Thomas White, Sr. and Edna Myrtle Punch White.

She was a member of Fairgrove United Methodist Church and was a member of United Methodist Women, she was a retired credit manager for Hickory Manufacturing Company and was also employed by Honeycutt Electrical Company. She was a graduate of Hickory High School and attended one year of business school at Lenoir -Rhyne College. She was a member of MFCA and served as secretary, her hobbies included needle work, ceramics and crafts.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, D.Y. Simmons, Jr.; two sisters, Ruby White Killian and husband James and Hazel White Johnston and husband Clyde, a brother, Charles P. White, Sr..

Survivors include a brother, Thomas White, Jr. and wife, Vivian Rhyne White of Cherryville, and a sister; Betty J. White, of Hickory, a sister in-law; Barbara White of Hickory, seven nieces and nephews, seventeen great-nieces and nephews and two great-great nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Beaver and Chaplain Paul Birkedal officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the funeral at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.
