George R. Sheaffer, ninety, Terre Hill, died Friday at 6:12 p.m. at his home after a lingering illness. A son of the late Aaron and Catherine Rhoads Sheaffer, he was a member of the Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church, and was a retired cigar manufacturer and plasterer. Surviving are his wife Mary Wolf Sheaffer, and these children: William, Terre Hill; Charles W., Brownstown; Clarence O., East Earl R. 1; Samuel F., Bertha, wife of Charles Kieffer, and Paul L., all of Terre Hill; also 34 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church, Terre Hill, on Tuesday at 2 o'clock. Interment was made in the Terre Hill Cemetery.
In the 1860 Census of East Cocalico, Lancaster County, PA, George's father, Aaron is listed as 37 years old, a Master Plasterer. His wife Catherine is also 37 years old. His children are listed as: Leviesa, 16; Susana, 15; John, 13; Vietta, 11; Catharine, 9; Lemon, 7; Anna Eliza, 5; Levi, 4; GEORGE, 3; Mary, 3/12. George Rhoads, 66, is a Day Laborer, also living in the household.
In the 1880 Census, E Earl, Lancaster County, PA, GEORGE lives with his parents. Aaron, 57, Farmer; Catharine, 56, Louissa, 35; GEORGE, 22, Cigarmaker; Louisa.
In the 1900 Census, George's parents are listed in the 1900 Census in East Earl, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His father Aaron F Shaffer, born January 1822 and mother Catharine, born April 1823. They are listed as married 57 years.
It is interesting to note that three of George's siblings married Sweigart siblings.
