Obituary of Carrie Mae Barnes

Gulfport, MS ~ Carrie Mae Barnes of Gulfport, MS was born July 23, 1933 in Collins, MS. She was the daughter of the late Willie McLaurin & Virde Mae Brown. On July 3, 1956, she married Charles Ray Barnes who survives her.
She graduated from Collins High School. She was a teacher's aide, and homemaker. She served as an active church mother at Greater Sweet Beluah COGIC in Prentiss, MS, where the pastor is Superintendent Marcus Butler. She relocated to Gulf Coast due to medical condition and became a member of Greater Freewill COGIC, where the pastor is Superintendent Morris Robinson. She passed away peacefully on January 7, 2013, in Gulfport, MS at the age of 79.
Mother Carrie Barnes was preceded in death by her parents Willie McLaurin, Sr. & Virde M. Brown; siblings: Johnny McLaurin, W.C. McLaurin, Lucille Otis, James McLaurin, Albert Lee McLaurin, Joe McLaurin; granddaughter: Shantil M. Barnes; Son: Ray Charles Barnes.
She is survived by her children, Terry (Mary) Barksdale, Dorothy J. McLaurin, Brenda (Robert) Chambers, Verdia M. Valentine, Lucretia (Carlis) Oden, Lucinda (Lee) Towner, Johnny Ray Barnes, Florence M. Jenkins, Charles E. Barnes, Jacqueline F. Barnes; 5 brother and 3 sisters; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Services will be 11 AM Monday, January 14, 2013 at Greater Freewill COGIC, 4556 Old Pass Road in Gulfport. Visitation will be two hours prior to service time at the church. Burial will follow at Monroe Memorial Park.
