Michael (Mike) Hamilton Clardy, 54, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Mike was born in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on September 23, 1958, the son of C. Steve Clardy and the late Bertha (Beth) Elizabeth Clardy. Mike grew up in Charlotte and attended Landsdowne Elementary, McClintock Middle School and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1976 where he lettered in both wrestling and football and played in the 1975 state football championship game. In 1981 Mike earned a degree in business administration from UNC Charlotte and later his Unlimited Electrical Contractor license.
Mike was an active member of Carmel Baptist Church for over twenty years where he served on various committees and taught Sunday school. He served on the board at the Charlotte Rescue Mission and enjoyed volunteering his time and talents at Covenant Day School. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman with a great spirit of adventure.
Mike came from a strong Scouting family. He went through Cub Scouts and earned his Arrow of Light at Sharon Amity Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 33 at Sardis Presbyterian Church. In addition to participating in 3 treks at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, he attended a National Jamboree in Cordyline, Idaho and was a member of the Catawba Lodge of the Order of the Arrow. Mike earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1973.
Mike was Vice President of Basic Electric Company Inc. for 30 years and participated in the executive management of all family businesses including: Boardwalk Beach Resorts, Boardwalk Towers, Aspen Asset Company, LLC and Rocking B Farms.
Mike is survived by his daughters, Michaelanne Clardy and Kathryn Clardy, and wife, Lizabeth (Betsy) Clardy, all of Charlotte; father, C. Steve Clardy, brothers Chip Clardy and Richard Clardy and their families.
A celebration of Mike's life was held on Saturday, January 12 at Carmel Baptist Church. Mike will be interned at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Monday morning, January 14. The family requests any memorial donations be made to the Clardy Family Endowment Fund at Mecklenburg County Council, Boy Scouts of America, 1410 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
