John died during a surgery at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville of heart failure.

His Pall Bearers were Elmer Roberts (brother-in-law), William Held (brother-in-law), Frank Alfultis (brother), Lewis Herron, Aud Arnold (brother-in-law) and Henry Alfultis (his brother).
