Mrs. Lyles died on Sunday, July 3, 2011. Born November 17, 1915, in Ridgeland, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Patrick Wise and Miriam Perry Wise. She was a 1936 graduate of Winthrop College with a degree in Home Economics. While there, she was elected into Phi Upsilon Omicron, a national home economics fraternity.
After graduation from college, Mrs. Lyles moved to Winnsboro where she taught school. There she met and married Baylis English Lyles. They were married sixty-three years until his death in 2000.
Active in her church and community, Mrs. Lyles was a member of the choir, the McClary Sunday School Class, and the Miriam Connor Circle. She was a member of the DAR, the Winnsboro Cotillion, Friends of the Library, and she served on the board of the Fairfield County Historical Society. Mrs. Lyles was an enthusiastic bridge player and an avid reader. She enjoyed memberships in several bridge clubs and was a charter member of the Zuzammen Book Club.
Mrs. Lyles symbolized the essence of a true southern lady. To her family, "Mee Mee" will always be remembered for her lovely smile and gracious demeanor.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Birge Wise Carroll and Wilhelmina Wise Getsinger.
