Clergy A Ballard was the son of Cloise Ballard (1827-1905) & Eliza Jane Brouse (1836-1910) of Ward, Randolph Co, Indiana

He was married 27 Oct 1883 in Randolph Co, IN to Gertrude Emma Barber (1863-1947) d/o daughter of George Barber & Eliza Diehl.

Ballard's tragic historical significant came about on the night of Independence Day 1908, he was brutally stabbed by a black man who had broken into his daughter Blanche's bedroom - he died the next day. A Springfield, IL news story about his murder [Mon, 6 Jul 1908 Daily Illinois State Register, Pg 2] says he was born near Danville, IL but Census records indicate he was born in Ohio, and the 1900 Census shows the date above.
