Alexander thought to have been the son of James "Little" and Margaret Snodgrass of Catawba Creek, Augusta County, Virginia (area which became part of Botetourt County in 1769-1770). Alexander's parents presumed to have died in Botetourt Co, Va before 1800. Date of birth unconfirmed, probably born circa 1760.

Alexander married Rebecca Devor circa 1778, probably in Southampton, Franklin Co., PA.

Alexander was recorded in Botetourt Co., VA titheable lists by 1781, listed with his father James "Little" Snodgrass and brother Joseph Snodgrass, from at least 1781 until 1790, when in 1791, Alexander was listed alone in Montgomery County, Virginia - which had been formed in 1777 from Botetourt and Fincastle counties. A number of Snodgrass family also lived in Botetourt County, primary from the family of William Snodgrass and Isabelle McClanahan - William recorded a Will in Botetourt County in Dec 1789.

Alexander appeared to have a sister Martha Snodgrass, who in 1792 married Cornelius Donovan in Botetourt County, VA - the Donovans had sons named James and Alexander. Alexander may have also had a brother Joseph Snodgrass, who in 1787 married Susannah Snodgrass in Botetourt County, VA - marriage consent was given by James and Margaret Snodgrass, witnessed by William Little and Robert Snodgrass.

In May 1799, Alexander provided surety for marriage of Elizabeth Snodgrass and Joseph Lang (DeLong) in Montgomery Co, VA; Elizabeth born Feb 1779 per her headstone in Miami Co, OH - she was likely Alexander and Rebecca's eldest daughter.

Alexander's property along Catawba Creek was in part purchased in 1781, then within Botetourt County: 20 Jul 1781 -- Land Grants, Bk. 4, pg. 76: Alexander Snodgrass, 135 acres, on a small branch of Catawba Creek, a branch of the James River. Alexander also had land on Craig's Creek which had been surveyed in May 1787, which Alexander and Rebecca sold to James Davids in 1812.

On 13 Feb 1819, Alexander surveyed 64 acres of land near Wm Eakin in Montgomery County, Virginia - same land which was sold by his heirs in 1834.

Alexander died before April 1823 in Montgomery Co, VA, when his estate was appraised.

28 March 1834 -- Montgomery Co, VA Deed Bk. L, pg. 345: John Snodgrass & Matilda (Snodgrass) his wife, Samuel Logan & Sarah (Snodgrass) his wife, Enos Carter & A.(Ann Snodgrass) Carter his wife, John Cooly(Cooley) & Martha (Snodgrass) his wife, all of Fayette Co., IN, sell to Adam Shank for $100 ... 199 acres on the waters of Catawba, adjoining William Eakin, Wm.
