He graduated from Twin Falls High School, class of 1934.

2nd Lt Beals was a pilot with the 8th Air Force, 78th Fighter Group, 83rd Fighter Squadron. He took off from Portsmouth England in P-38F #41-7566 to ferry it to Tafraoui Algeria. He did not make it to Gibraltar, the end of the first leg of the trip, and it is not known what happened to him.

Since his body was not recovered, his name is inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing.
