His brother, also with the Royal Air Force (Auxiliary Air Force),
Flying Officer Christopher Maylam Elgar
, aged 32 was killed on active service too.[August 15th 1941]He has no known grave and is commemorated on the
RUNNYMEDE MEMORIAL,Panel 30.

The brothers are commemorated on a tablet in the church.

They were sons of Walter Robinson Elgar and Lilian Elgar of Bobbing, Sittingbourne, Kent.
