John Henry "Sam" Sturdivant, 99, passed away January 8, 2013, at Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek. Born in Bessemer, AL he came to Toledo in the early 30's and attended Macomber High School. Before coming to Toledo, he lived in Coxton, KY and worked in the coal mines. After his arrival in Toledo, he worked for General Mills, Harbor Behavior Health Care (Luella Cummings) and retired from O.I. after 15 years of service. He loved to fish and hunt and was an avid reader. John was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children Ollie Mae Horton Sturdivant, their daughter Audrey Lee his second wife Rev. Dorothy Johnson Sturdivant, and sisters Thelma Sturdivant and Carrie Daniels. He leaves to cherish many wonderful memories and with great thanks for a life of almost 100 years, son, John Robert of Fort Worth, TX; daughter, Loretta of Irving, TX; sons, Donald and Tyrone (Gloria) Sturdivant both of Toledo, OH; brother, Columbus (Diane) Sturdivant; sister, Laura King; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Monday 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Dale-Riggs Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Ronald Atkins officiant, interment Forest Cemetery.
